Course outline

The 10-week Winter Retreat on Holy Isle is an opportunity for deepening ones meditation practice. The retreat especially offers a supportive environment for those wishing to dedicate themselves to the Mahamudra Ordinary and Special Preliminaries and is thus an opportunity for focused retreat time for people attending Tai Situ Rinpoche's Mahamudra teachings or who have attended Drupon Rinpoche's Ngondro teachings at Samye Ling.

The retreat is open to everyone with some basic meditation experience but it is important that those who are intending to practice the Ngondro should have received instruction prior to starting the retreat.

Retreatants are welcome to join the daily Green Tara and Chenrezig group sessions that are part of the Holy Isle regular schedule, but please note that the Winter Retreat is designed essentially for individual practice, in four daily sessions of one-and-a-half-hours each, carried out by people in their own rooms. Retreatants are expected, moreover, to join in karma yoga, by helping out with certain basic tasks like making breakfast, washing up and cleaning.

Lama Rinchen Palmo, who assisted the previous long-term closed retreats on the south end of Holy Isle and is now the resident teacher in the Belgium Samye Dzongs, will open the Winter retreat. She will make occasional visits and John Emery (Sherab Drimay) - a very experienced and appreciated meditation practitioner - will be present all through the 10 weeks and will be available for advice and personal interviews.

The retreat starts on the evening of Tuesday 9th January and departs on Tuesday 20th March in the morning.

Please note: The minimum period is three weeks.
