Course outline

Join us for a joyful weekend of all things yoga, supported by the beautiful, peaceful and nurturing location and sustained by the delicious, fresh food often from the Holy Isle garden! This is an opportunity to get away from it all for a weekend of yoga, pranayama and Vedic chanting to guide us inwards towards a greater sense of well-being.

Our Yoga practices will be focused on developing awareness of the body, breath and mind whilst always working within our own individual needs. Simple and gentle movements combined with pranayama, breathing exercises, supported by reference to the ancient texts including the Yoga Sutras of Pantanjali and the Bhagavadgita. We will explore the use and impact of sound through chanting from the Vedas and the chakra seed sound mantras. There will be an introduction to the yogic path of meditation with pratyahara, dharana and dhyana. Walking meditation and practices may be held outside if the weather permits. Following the tradition of Krishnamacharya, who opened up Vedic chanting to all, and his son Desikachar who promoted individual practices for its therapeutic use.

Throughout the weekend we will have time and opportunity for rest and relaxation. Time to explore the island, hang out with the ponies, stroll along the shore, walk over the hill or brave the clear waters surrounding the island.

There are yoga mats, cushions and chairs available in the hall. You will need comfortable clothes, outdoor wear, indoor footwear/slippers and toiletries.

This retreat is a great chance to go deeper into your yoga practise wherever you are on your yoga journey. The retreat is suitable for beginners to experienced practitioners alike.

The retreat will begin in the evening of the 24th and finish after breakfast on the 27th.
