Course outline

Tara Rokpa is a unique system of relaxations, therapy and meditation exercises created and developed by Dr Akong Rinpoche, the co-founder of Samye Ling. The exercises are simple yet profound and can be practiced in our everyday lives.

This weekend workshop will focus on two of the exercises that are a central part of the Tara Rokpa method: ‘Openness’ and ‘Clarifying Blame'. We will introduce and practice the ‘Openness’ visualisation. In it we use all our experiences both positive and negative as the raw material for developing universal compassion, the wish for all beings to be happy and free from suffering.

Feelings of blame towards ourselves and others can act as an obstacle to this universal wish. During the workshop we will introduce the exercise ‘Clarifying Blame’. It is so easy to get stuck in narratives of self blame and the blaming of others. This exercise encourages us to develop broader perspectives and understandings, thus allowing ourselves the possibility of alternative ways of viewing events. This can help free up our basic goodness so it can manifest  into naturally flowing compassion for ourselves and others.

The workshop will include some of the other Tara Rokpa relaxations and we'll use art materials as a support. There will also be time to rest, relax and explore and appreciate the wild beauty of the Isle.

This workshop is suitable for those who are new to the methods of Tara Rokpa and also those who already have some experience.

There will be an opportunity during the weekend for anyone interested to hear more about Tara Rokpa.

The workshop starts on Friday June 5th 2020 after supper and departs on Monday June 8th after breakfast.
