Course outline

Following the wonderful monastic led retreat in 2019, we are delighted that this 2020 retreat will again be hosted by the Holy Isle Project. This retreat is being facilitated by Dear Green Sangha, the Glasgow based branch of the Community of Interbeing and will be supported by Lyndsay Lunan.

The 4 day retreat will be a unique opportunity to deepen your mindfulness practice. Each day there will be a teaching, guided and silent practices, walking meditation and sharing groups.

This retreat centres around the theme of deep listening. It is an opportunity to reflect upon whether we are listening as much inwardly, to the needs of our own selves, as we do outwardly to the needs of others; to listen to the expressions of our bodies and the voices of our own hearts. How can we bring a state of deep inner listening to our meditation practice and to all of the forms of this practice so that there are spaces of meaningful connection?

We will explore various practices of deep listening: what does it really mean to speak and listen from the heart? How can we listen without burnout and overwhelm? And how is it possible to listen to the joys and the sorrows of the world from a place of balance and love?

Thich Nhat Hanh has given us practices that allow us to connect deeply with our bodies, our emotions, with each other and with the body of the world. Listening with loving attention, each of these practices offers us a doorway to connect with the alive expression of our own unique meeting with life.

The retreat will use teachings from the many gifted teachers of our time, it will have an open approach incorporating many traditions.

The food will be vegan, much of it being grown in the wonderful Holy Isle gardens. There will be dairy options available.

We will follow noble silence from the end of practice each evening to after lunch the following day.

Please note that this year it is not a monastic led retreat and that all participants are required to commit to the whole retreat.
